Chicken N Pickle is an indoor/outdoor entertainment complex in Northern San Antonio. It features pickle ball courts, bocce ball courts, and shuffleboard!
There are dining options available, as well as a bar on site.
I ordered their “Knotty Cherry” cocktail, and it was delicious! You can find their full food and drink menus here.
Pickle Ball
For those of you who don’t know, pickle ball is a game comparable to tennis, but played with a different kind of ball.
You use wooden paddles to hit a perforated polymer ball (similar to a wiffle ball) over a low net. It is played until 11 points. The winning team has to win by at least 2 points or the game continues. So, that means if the score is 10-11-1, you would play until 12 points instead.
Scoring in pickle ball is a bit strange. The score contains 3 numbers and looks like this, for example, 1-4-1. The first number represents the score of the serving team. The second number represents the score of the opposing team, and the third number represents who is serving. The player on the right when the serve starts is always server #1. Every time a point is scored the server switches to the opposite side of the court.
To rent a private pickle ball court at Chicken N Pickle it is typically 20$/hr, except on Friday and Saturday’s from 5pm-midnight when indoor pickle ball courts are 40$/hr instead.
Newbie Night at Chicken N Pickle
Chicken N Pickle offers a “newbie night” once a month, where you can learn the rules of pickle ball and play with other beginners! It costs 5$ per person, and paddles are provided. The next newbie night is set for December 22nd, from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.
I went to a newbie night this past Tuesday, November 24th, and had a blast!
There are a mix of new and experienced players there, and everyone is super encouraging. Make a reservation for newbie night here!
Bocce Ball
There are 2 bocce ball courts at Chicken N Pickle.
Sunday-Thursday it costs 1$/hr to rent a bocce ball court. Friday and Saturday the price changes to 5$ an hour for bocce ball courts.
Chicken N Pickle has three shuffle board courts available foor bookings. Sunday-Thursday a shuffleboard can be booked for 1$/hr. Friday and Saturday a shuffle board court can be booked for 5$/hr.
There is plenty of seating on the property so that you can sit out and enjoy the beautiful Texas weather!
Even better, their outdoor spaces are dog friendly!
The entire concept of Chicken N Pickle is very unique. I definitely recommend Chicken N Pickle to anyone looking to spend an afternoon outdoors with friends or family. Get outside, and get active at Chicken N Pickle!
