Are you looking for something fun to do this fall? Check out 814 Cider Works to have some good old-fashioned fun with friends!
After debating between a trip to the winery, or a trip to the cidery for this fall, my friends and I decided to try out our local cidery. Conveniently, it is located about a ten minute drive from Penn State’s University Park campus.
814 Cider Works
814 Cider Works is the closet cidery to Penn State University, and it had some great reviews. The cidery is open every 1st, 3rd, and (when applicable), 5th weekend of every month until December.
Their cider menu can be found online with a list of available choices. My friends and I each got a flight of 6 different ciders to try. My favorites were Pappy’s Punch and Sweet Cranoline.
Food is available on-site, and is typically provided by a local business from their food trucks. BBQ by Clem & Rosie’s Pierogies were serving there the day we went! Like most places currently, in order to adhere to COVID-19 standards alcohol cannot be served here unless it is purchased with food.
There was a short path you can follow to look at the apple trees and live music was played throughout the afternoon. Bathrooms are available on site.
We chose to bring a blanket and enjoy our afternoon out in the grass. There were also picnic tables to sit at, and fire pits that you could reserve in advance. If you plan on staying late I would definitely recommend getting a fire-pit, as it does get quite chilly after sunset! Fire pits can be reserved here.
You can buy ciders to take home, and they offer refillable growlers that you can bring back to refill over and over!
The cidery is not pet friendly, but you can bring kids as long as someone in the party is over 25 and willing to be their guardian. Reserve a fire pit for some family fun and s’mores roasting!
If you’re in State College, PA, or planning a trip there this fall, be sure to check out 814 Cider Works at J.L. Farm and Cidery.
